Emergency dentist at home
Urgent home dental visits for pain, swelling, broken teeth and lost fillings — how they work and how to get help fast.
When you are in dental pain and cannot get to a clinic, an emergency home visit brings urgent relief to you. A GDC-registered dentist and nurse can come with a portable surgery to assess the problem, relieve the pain, and put a clear plan in place — often in the same visit. For older, housebound and anxious patients, that means help without a distressing journey.
When to seek urgent help
- Severe or worsening toothache
- Facial swelling or a suspected abscess
- A broken or knocked-about tooth
- A lost filling, crown or veneer
- A denture that has broken or is causing a painful sore
- Bleeding or pain after a recent extraction
If you have significant facial swelling that is spreading, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or you feel very unwell, treat it as a medical emergency and seek urgent NHS medical help straight away.
What we can do at home
A great deal of urgent care can be delivered at the bedside: settling pain, treating infection, re-cementing a loose crown or veneer, temporary and permanent repairs, denture repairs, and extractions where they can be done safely at home. We do not take X-rays at home — if one is needed we arrange it — and if a case is safer in a hospital setting we will tell you and help arrange it.
How an urgent visit works
- Call us and tell us what is happening — we will talk it through calmly.
- We arrange a visit as quickly as we can and give you a clear quote.
- A dentist and nurse come to you, relieve the pain and, where possible, sort the problem the same visit.
- You get a written plan and any follow-up arranged.
What it costs
Urgent home visits start from £350, with a clear quote first. You will always know the price before treatment goes ahead.
