Dentist for someone with dementia
How home dental visits help people living with dementia — gently, calmly, in surroundings they know.
Dental care matters just as much for someone living with dementia — but a busy, unfamiliar clinic can be frightening and disorientating, and the journey there can undo a whole day. Being treated calmly at home, in familiar surroundings and a familiar routine, changes the experience completely. A GDC-registered dentist and nurse come to you, work at the person’s pace, and involve the family and carers who know them best.
Why home visits suit people with dementia
- Familiar surroundings reduce fear and confusion
- No stressful journey or waiting room
- Care can be given at the calmest time of day for that person
- Family and carers can be present throughout
- We can work in short, gentle steps rather than one long appointment
What we can help with
Many dental problems in dementia go unnoticed until they cause pain or stop someone eating. We can help with:
- Dentures that no longer fit, rub or make eating difficult — repairs, relines and new sets
- Toothache, infection and abscesses, gently relieved
- Check-ups and hygiene to prevent problems and keep the mouth comfortable
- Advice for carers on daily mouth care
How we put the person at ease
We take our time, explain things simply, and follow the person’s lead. A calm voice, a familiar face nearby, and short steps make a real difference. Because we are in the home, we can pause, come back to something, or split treatment across visits — whatever keeps the person comfortable and safe.
Consent and best interests
Where someone may not be able to make a particular decision for themselves, we work carefully and lawfully, involving family and carers and acting in the person’s best interests. We never do anything without proper agreement, and we explain every step.
Advice for family and carers
You know the person best, and your knowledge is invaluable. Telling us their best time of day, what tends to unsettle them, how they like to communicate, and any words or routines that reassure them helps us give calm, kind care. Simple daily mouth care between visits — gentle brushing and looking after dentures — also makes a real difference, and we are glad to show you how.
What it costs and how to arrange it
Home visits start from £350, always with a clear written quote first and no obligation. If you are caring for someone with dementia, you are welcome to make the arrangements on their behalf — request a free quote or call 0330 113 2003 and we will talk it through gently.
